Facebook, Twitter Pages Established For Countywide Arson Task Force

"Arson Watch L.A." social media accounts have been launched to assist the?five-agency task force formed to combat the recent spate of arson fires in Los Angeles, authorities announced today.

A joint effort to apprehend the person(s) responsible for the string of fires has been established between the Los Angeles Police Department, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Los Angeles Fire Department, Los Angeles County Fire Department, and officers with the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

The task force has created Twitter and Facebook pages with the user name of ?Arson Watch L.A.?

The move is intended to find the culprit in the string of 40 arson events that have been committed within the past week.

According to published reports, an arsonist or arsonists have deliberately burned vehicles in the Los Angeles area in the past few days with damages estimated in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Today, authorities asked the public for help in identifying a person of interest in the case.

Police in Los Angeles released a video showing a white man dressed in black that they suspect was near a vehicle set afire in an indoor parking structure at the Hollywood & Highland Center, on Hollywood Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Anyone with information is asked to post it on Facebook or Tweet it on one of the pages.

A combination of rewards in the sum of $60,000 are being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a person or persons responsible for the fires.

The public is also asked to use the more traditional methods of dialing 911 or to call (800) 222-8477.

Local firefighters and law enforcement officers are urging the community to remain vigilant and take the following precautionary measures:?

  • Make sure your smoke alarms work.?
  • Have a family emergency plan and discuss it with your family.?
